"systemic pattern of deceptive trade practices"

Section 11 Nov 3, 2015  complaint filed by Colorado Attorney General against The Murib held company AAAA tv sewing and vacuums

This page is presented as a resource for current and former customers and employees of companies operated by the Murib family of Colorado under the names “More Than Vacuums”, “Sew More than Vacuums” and others. Members of the Murib family have a thirty year history of operating vacuum and small appliance repair stores in Colorado. This history is marred by hundreds of consumer complaints and two legal convictions by the Colorado state Attorneys general’s office. For three decades the operation has passed through numerous legal entities and changed hands between Murib family members. However the modus operandi remains strikingly familiar to this day. Tracking this chameleon through the decades has proven a challenge for people who believe they have been defrauded by the Murrib’s organizations as well as law enforcement. It is our hope that compiling this information in a single resource will empower potential victims of fraud to report suspected criminal acts and aid law enforcement in stopping it.

These resources will aid you in reporting your experience to law enforcement and consumer advocacy groups. Working together we can we aid our law enforcement in stopping illegal and unethical business practices.

"Repair Shop Accused Of Charging Customers For Unnecessary Repairs"

In 2015 Heidi Hemmat of Denver KDVR “Problem Solvers” broke a story about “A Centennial retail TV and repair shop is accused of charging customers for unnecessary repairs that increase their bills sometimes by hundreds of dollars”

She reported that “Dozens of Colorado residents have filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau against AAAA TV Electronics and Vacuum. “

Her story turned out to be a much bigger deal than she had anticipated and the following day she reported that “FOX 31 Denver has been inundated with phone calls and emails from people who say they too have been cheated” and her story turned in to a series.

"The Attorney General would like any victims who have not filed a complaint with their office to contact them. The AG’s consumer line is 800-222-4444. "
" PERMANENTLY ENJOINS DEFENDANTS and any other person under their control or at their direction who receives actual notice of this Order from: Engaging in the commercial repair, service, or maintenance of consumer goods, including, but not limited to; soliciting consumer goods for repair, service, or maintenance; accepting consumer goods for repair, service or maintenance from outside sources; and actually repairing, servicing or performing maintenance of consumer goods."

The Colorado attorney General quickly opened an investigation in to the Murib’s business.

During the investigation they discovered that this was not the first time the Muribs had been involved in this type of activity! “From 1989 to 1993, Defendant Murib owned several repair stores under various trade names” “Consumers filed numerous complaints about Murib’s stores”

“In 1990, the Consumer Fraud Division of the Denver District Attorney’s Office began a formal investigation of Murib’s repair stores that revealed a systemic pattern of deceptive trade practices”

The investigation took years to complete until “On June 8, 1995, Murib pled guilty to Multiple Thefts, a Class 4 felony. Murib was sentenced to six (6) years of probation and ordered to pay restitution”

The 2015 complaint explains that Muhammed fled the US in 1996 back to his home country of Lebanon with his son Hazem. An arrest warrant for failure to report to probation was issued at that time but due to what looks like a clerical error the warrant was squashed in 2001. Muhammed promptly returned to the US and opened a new repair store in Centennial Colorado.

Ultimately the 2016 investigation resulted in the AG successfully baring Mohamed and Omar Murib from engaging in electronics repair through their company “AAAA TEVA”. Details HERE.

Not their first rodeo

So as they say this was not the Murib’s first rodeo. On Feb 4th 2015, the day after the KDVR story broke in  Hazem Murib (Muhammad’s son) registered a new corporation “TV Vac Sew More inc.” which continues to operate the businesses referenced on this website.

Hazem Murib’s Linked in profile reports that he was the Vice President of his father’s company AAAA TEVA until the year his father came under investigation.

“TV Vac Sew More inc.” acquired several of the Vacuum and Sewing Machine repair business referenced here. However, it was not until his father’s case was settled and his uncle’s jail sentence completed that Hazem registered the trade name “More Than Vacuums” on December 16th 2016. This is the most common name that we know these stores as today.

One would think that you couldn’t have your Vice President simply reopen your business under a different business name while you are under a criminal investigation.

KDVR reporter who broke the 2015 Vacuum Store story

At the time Heidi broke this story the Murib’s TV and Vacuum store had already amassed more than 70 Better Business Bureau complaints with no law enforcement efforts made again the business.  The spot light Heidi put on the Murib’s was what motivated our legal representatives to bring them to justice and protect us.

Doubtless if Heidi had still been reporting at the time this case closed she would have brought that big old KDVR spotlight back on them More Than Vacuums. However, she was long gone by the time “More Than Vacuums” trade name was registered.

In her piece “Why I left KDVR and TV News” she shares “The reason I left is downright terrifying. ” “I worked very hard to expose this guy–and in the end, I paid a very high price.”

Speaking of Murib Senior Heidi says: “Shortly after he learned about the charges against him, that were a direct result of me, I got a call from his psychiatrist. She told me he was “homicidal” and was planning to kill me. The psychiatrist thought the threat was so credible, she broke HPPA laws” “to warn me.”

These resources will aid you in reporting your experience to law enforcement and consumer advocacy groups. Working together we can we aid our law enforcement in stopping illegal and unethical business practices.

What people are saying

TV Vac Sew More Inc acts as a holding company for the registered trade name More than Vacuums. Colorado does not require companies to register trade names as a “doing business as” like many other states so there is no further registration information for “sew more than vacuums” “agency vacuums” or “blakemans sewing and vacuum” at this time

This place cheats repair customers from the start. Their entire repair process is designed to separate customers from their money.
